What to Do This Weekend: 8/25-8/27

Do you feel that crisp in the air?  Yup, us too!  Low humidity, mild temperatures and sunshine are all in the forecast for us in Northern Virginia this weekend and we think it calls for some serious outdoor time.  Not sure how best to take advantage of the weather?  No need to panic, we have curated a list of local places for you to check out…

Let’s Play Ball!

The Nats are home this weekend in a series against the Mets and this is PRIME baseball weather!  There is not a bad seat at Nats Park (IMHO) so I wouldn’t hesitate to snag some “nose-bleed” seats on the cheap just to watch our hometown boys play ball.

Don’t feel like dealing with the headache of making your way downtown OR prefer to get a closer view without spending the dough?  We don’t blame you! The Potomac Nationals are at home this weekend as well and minor league tickets are super affordable.  Make the trip out to Pfitzner Stadium and get yourself up close and personal with our feeder team.  Purchase your tickets here.  If you head out to a game on Saturday, make sure to stick around for the fireworks display that they host after every Saturday home game!

Summer Sunflowers at Burnside Farms

It doesn’t get much cuter than this guys!  Burnside Farms is located in Haymarket, Virginia and right now their fields are loaded with breathtaking rows of sunflowers.  For only $6/person (under 2 is free), you are granted entry into the fields to enjoy the sights, take photos & play in the children’s area which offers two moon bounces and the most adorable little play cottages.  For just $1.50/stem, you can clip sunflowers to bring home with you.  Sunflower umbrellas, clippers and baskets are all available for use while you are there and are included in your admission price.   Don’t delay as the sunflowers won’t be in peak season much longer!!

It’s Alexandria Restaurant Week!

Are you a foodie or maybe you just enjoy strolling through quaint neighborhoods and enjoying new foods?  Well, you’re in luck!  It’s Alexandria Restaurant week which means that more than 60 restaurants in the city will be participating in the event to bring you 3 course meal options, lunch deals and dinner specials all at fixed prices.

Navigate over to the website which details all the restaurants that are participating and what deals they are offering.  The streets in Old Town Alexandria were made for strolling and this weather makes it an event you just can’t miss!  As an added bonus, some of the boutiques will remain open until 9pm to accommodate the crowds.

Grab a Pint at Lake Anne Brew House

Located in the heart of beautiful Lake Anne Plaza in Reston, Virginia this Brew House is small in size but huge in charm.  Take advantage of it’s proximity to the Farmers Market which runs in the plaza Saturdays from 8am to 12pm.  Make your selections at the market and then stop in to The Lake Anne Brew House to enjoy a Nitro Cold Brew beer on their lakeside patio.   Not a beer drinker?  They offer a great iced coffee option as well.

Stick around until 2:30 and enjoy live music on the patio and feel free to bring your pup along too because their patio is pet friendly!  Do you love a great IG photo op?  Well then, don’t forget to pick up one of their super cute logo-ed temporary tattoos while you’re there!

Great Falls Park

Great Falls Park is a tried and true favorite!  It boasts outstanding views of The Potomac River’s water falls, a range of hiking opportunities and lots of green space for throwing a Frisbee or kicking around a soccer ball.  You’ll have access to the park from 7am until dark and admission is only $10/car.

Pack yourself a picnic lunch, bring a blanket and camera and prepare to spend the day.  Make the reasonable 1.5 (ish) mile hike over to Riverbend Park from here to rent a canoe or kayak and really enjoy the beauty of The Potomac River.

Whatever it is you decide to do this weekend, consider doing it outside!  “Live in the sunshine, swim in the sea, drink the wild air.” – Emerson
