Employee Spotlight: Miranda Kendle

Having grown up in both Front Royal and Woodbridge, Miranda Kendle is a proud Virginia native .  She finds her happiest moments are spent surrounded by family but when she is going it solo, she LOVES to read a good book.  Her lengthy commute into Falls Church limits the free time available to do so which has spurred her appreciation for audio books 🙂

Miranda was engaged last year and she and her fiance, Caleb, always try to put aside time for hiking, traveling and swimming.  They love the outdoors!  Which is good because they live in Shenandoah County with their four beloved dogs (yup, you heard that right…FOUR) Bella, Hufflepuff, Weasley and Bernard.
Speaking of four, it was four years ago that Miranda walked through our doors in search of a new challenge and an opportunity for growth.  Boy did she find it!
Today, she is one of five property managers at Peake Management and she maintains a large portfolio of properties located in two different counties.  With so much to juggle, she is very organized.  Miranda works diligently to act as a facilitator for landlords, tenants, vendors, co-workers…you name it!  She is an incredibly dedicated worker with a fantastic work ethic and a big heart.  Miranda always stands up for what is right and we are grateful she is a part of our team.
“Lindsey has made a great working environment.  As time goes by, our team has become closer and closer— we’re like family.” – Miranda on why she has stayed with Peake.

Here’s a brief Q&A that Miranda was good enough to participate in for us:
Nicole: What do you think is the most important thing for a tenant to consider when renting a property?
Miranda: That although it is not their home, it should still be treated with care and respect. Treat others how you wish to be treated…. That old adage rings true in so many different scenarios in life.
Nicole: What do you think is the most important thing for a landlord to consider when renting a property?
Miranda: That no two tenants are the same. For example, just because a previous tenant was handy and able to address a lot that came up, never needing to request maintenance work, etc. does not mean that the next tenant will have that same knowledge/skill. Therefore, with changes in tenants, sometimes you may see an increase of maintenance requests that are outside of the realm of tenant responsibility.
Nicole: What would you say is a main point of contention for landlords and tenants? And how could that be alleviated?
Miranda: I think everyone comes in to renting with their own set of expectations, but with a property manager as the middle man, sometimes the outcome won’t always be in either parties favor. As long as everyone maintains a certain level of respect and understanding for one and other’s positions, then typically a mutual resolution is easy to achieve.
Nicole: What is the most valuable lesson you have learned in your job?
Miranda: Personally, I’ve learned that I’m capable of anything I put my mind to. Career wise, I’ve learned to always be prepared for the worst case scenario and to have a plan in mind on how to tackle it if it does come to that. For example, if I go into the weekend and we’re expecting a lot of rain… I just might have to deal with a flood call.
Nicole: What is the craziest thing you have seen in your job?
Miranda: I really can’t say, but I will say that the craziest thing overall is how fast tempers can flare in a customer service oriented field. It can be tough to navigate, but I always try to put myself in their shoes and help address the situation as best I can.
Nicole: Has there been a time that you felt you made a difference in someone’s life (small or large) in your job?
Miranda: Property management can be a thankless job, but over the years I’ve made such great connections with our clients and I’ve felt that I’ve truly made a difference on numerous occasions. The smallest “thank you” really touches my heart.
Nicole: What does your company do to make you feel valued as an employee?
Miranda: They ask for my advice and not only listen to my ideas, but implement them.
Finally and because music is the true window to the soul, we bring you…

Miranda’s Top Five Favorite Albums:

1. For Those Who Have Heart (A Day To Remember)
2. Hybrid Theory (Linkin Park)
3. Core (Stone Temple Pilots)
4. Lemonade (Beyonce)

Hopefully you now know what we’ve known for years…Miranda rocks!
